Fire’s flames burned brighter than usual that night, but it wasn’t out of anger — it was love. Every time he thought about Water, his heart flickered like a soft candlelight. But love doesn’t stay a secret for long.
Fire’s family noticed. They always notice.
The First Warning
“Where have you been?” asked Ember, Fire’s older brother, his voice as sharp as sparks.
“Nowhere,” Fire muttered.
“Don’t lie to me,” Ember snapped. “You’ve been glowing differently. Softer. Like someone’s taming you.”
Fire clenched his jaw. “No one is taming me.”
Their father, Flameheart, overheard and stepped in.
“You’re seeing her, aren’t you?” he growled.
Fire stayed silent. Silence was enough of an answer.
“Water will put you out, son. You’re fire. She’s water. You were never meant to exist together. It’s nature’s rule.”
But Fire whispered under his breath, “Then maybe nature is wrong.”
Water Faces Her Own Storm
While Fire was dealing with his family’s heat, Water faced an equally harsh current at home.
Her sister, Stream, questioned her. “Why do I see steam around you lately? You’ve been near him, haven’t you?”
Water looked away.
Her father, Oceanus, was stern.
“Water and fire don’t mix. He’ll burn you, evaporate you until nothing is left. I will not allow you to destroy yourself over a flame.”
Water, usually so calm, finally spoke with rare firmness.
“I am not afraid of being steam. I am afraid of never knowing what love feels like.”
The Forbidden Love Intensifies
Despite the warnings, Fire and Water couldn’t stay apart. They met secretly at twilight, where the mountain met the valley. But this time, they were both shaken.
“They know,” Fire said, his flames trembling.
“Mine too,” Water sighed.
“They want me to stay away from you.”
“Same here.”
There was silence. The kind of silence that hurts.
Then Fire took a deep breath and said,
“I can’t let them decide who I burn for.”
Water looked at him, her ripples glowing in the moonlight.
“Then let’s be the fire that warms and the water that heals. Let’s show them we’re not a disaster waiting to happen.”
The Start of War
When Fire’s family found out he continued to meet Water, Ember confronted him.
“Are you willing to burn down everything for her?” he asked.
“Yes,” Fire replied without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Water’s family told her,
“If you keep seeing him, we’ll cut you off from our streams and rivers. We’ll leave you alone to dry.”
Water closed her eyes and whispered,
“I’d rather dry up loving him than flow forever empty.”
The Foreshadowing of Pain
That night, Fire and Water held each other close — as close as two impossible beings could. But deep down, they both felt it.
This love would not be easy.
This love would test them.
