Sometimes silence is louder than words. Sometimes pretending not to notice says more than confronting ever could. I have learned that the greatest power is in observation, not reaction.
I see the little changes—the pauses in your tone, the shift in your eyes when you’re hiding something, the way you choose your words like walking on glass. I notice the late replies that once came instantly. I catch the subtle energy that speaks louder than anything you type or say. You think I don’t know? You think I’m naïve? That’s what I want you to think.
I choose to play dumb because calling out every truth I see would only reveal my cards. It would show you how closely I’ve been watching, how I’ve memorized the patterns of your lies, and how I’ve understood the silence behind your excuses.
I know everything you think I don’t. I know the names you never say out loud but keep lingering in your texts. I know the places you’ve been when you told me you were “busy.” I know the thoughts behind your sudden kindness, your sudden distance, and your sudden guilt.
But here’s the thing—I don’t react because I’m not here to beg for honesty. I’m not here to fight for a place in someone’s life who thinks I can’t see through them. Playing dumb gives me control, it gives me peace, and it shows me who you truly are when you think I’m blind.
One day, when I finally decide I’m done with the charade, you’ll wonder how I walked away without a fight. You’ll wonder why I never confronted you. And I’ll smile because I always knew.
Sometimes, pretending not to know is my way of winning.
